State support to industry has decreased somewhat

Each year, the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis reports on state support provided to industry, which was earlier carried out by ITPS. In 2008 total support provided amounted to SEK 28.8 billion. This was a reduction of SEK 1.4 billion or 4.6 % compared with 2007.

The most important explanation for the decrease is that support for labour policy market measures and other forms of support decreased in total by 29% between 2007 and 2008. In absolute figures, these two forms of support decreased from SEK 2.8 billion to SEK 2 billion.

In both the WTO and the EU there are special regulatory systems determining the amount of national support that can be provided. The rules also contain provisions on openness and ongoing reporting. In Sweden state support for industry is provided within the framework of industrial policy, as well as in other policy areas.
