Department of Accessibility and Regional Growth (RG)

The basic question for regional growth policy is how it can be shaped so that all of Sweden’s growth potential is utilised. Growth Analysis monitors development in both metropolitan and rural areas with the objective of better understanding the relationships for growth.

Growth Analysis’ evaluations and analyses will contribute to leveraging the potential of the entire country. A large part of the work comprises monitoring the growth trend and measuring it in various ways. Another important component involves analysing organisational conditions, meaning whether the efforts from various actors such as the State, region and municipality work together with or counter to one another. For this work, a relevant and up-to-date fact base, statistics, databases and forecast instruments are needed. Examples of such tools are:

rAps (regional Analysis and forecast system)
rAps is a forecast tool that builds on a database with statistics broken down by region. rAps is used for analyses and forecasts of regional development.

Pinpoint Sweden
is a platform that shows geographic accessibility. PiPoS is primarily developed to calculate distance and time between various geographic areas.

Examples of assignments

Structural fund capital as equity capital
Growth Analysis will evaluate the endeavour to use structural fund capital as venture capital. This assignment will be presented in three interim reports during the course of the project with a final report in 2015.

Municipal and regional contributions to sustainable growth
Growth Analysis will analyse the contributions of municipalities and regions to work on sustainable growth. How the actors work in the area of growth and how they collaborate with one another.

Rural and metropolitan development
The Swedish Government emphasizes the need to integrate rural issues into all areas of policy. A central area to look more closely at is modern IT technology, which creates new conditions, particularly for the more sparsely populated areas of the country.
