Summary: Swedish groups with affiliates abroad 2010

Summary Swedish agency for growth policy analysis (Growth analysis) has
in accordance with the Act on Official Statistics (SFS 2001:99) and the appendix to the Ordinance on Statistics (SFS 2001:100) the task of producing and making statistics on international enterprises available.
As a part of this work Growth analysis produces an annual report on the affiliates of Swedish controlled groups abroad. This report only
presents data concerning groups which have at least one affiliate  abroad, and the data applies to business operations in 2010.

In 2010 there were 2,288 Swedish controlled groups with affiliates abroad, an increase of 812 groups since 2009. A large part of the increase derives from a changed definition over which enterprise groups that should be included in the population.  

The number of employees in these amounted to slightly more than 1.62 million, a increase of 4 per cent over the preceding year.  The number of employees abroad increased by 22,000 to slightly less than 1.2 million, whilst the number in Sweden increased by slightly more than 39,000 persons to 488,000 employees.

Of the 2,288 Swedish groups with affiliates abroad in 2010, 707 groups (31 per cent) had affiliates in Norway. Between 15 and 20 per cent of the groups had affiliates in the other Scandinavian countries, the UK, Germany and the USA.

In this year's report the variable turnover is for the first time included for the Swedish groups with affiliates abroad. The total turnover abroad for year 2010 was 2,382 billion and total turnover in Sweden was 2,216 billion. The countries where the Swedish groups had their largest percentage of their foreign turnover were US with 15 percent followed by Germany 11 percent and Norway 8 percent.
