In 2014 there were 3,027 Swedish controlled enterprise groups with affiliates abroad, an increase of 196 groups since 2013. Of these enterprise groups 901 or 30 per cent had subsidiaries in Norway. Between 18 and 20 per cent of the enterprise groups had subsidiaries established in Finland, Denmark and USA.
The number of employees in the Swedish controlled enterprise groups with affiliates abroad amounted to 1.9 million, an increase of 6 per cent over the preceding year. The number of employees abroad increased by 112,948 to 1.36 million and the number in Sweden slightly decreased to 532,573 employees.
The largest increases in individual countries took place in the US where the number of employees in the Swedish controlled groups increased by 22,722 and in China, where the number of employees increased by 10,312. Swedish controlled enterprise groups decreased their number of employees in a few countries, in Egypt their number of employees decreased by 1,202 and in Brazil by 1,167 employees. The countries where Swedish enterprise groups had their largest number of employees were US with 209,276, Germany with 101,545 and China with 96,190 employees.
The majority of employees abroad were in groups with at least 5,000 employees in Sweden. The 21 enterprise groups with at least 5,000 employees in Sweden accounted for about 59 per cent of all employees in foreign countries, and 41 per cent of employees in Sweden.
The total turnover for the Swedish groups with affiliates abroad accounted to 4,612 billion for year 2014. Abroad the total turnover was 2,834 billion and the total turnover in Sweden was 1,778 billion. That was an increase of 9 per cent abroad and a decrease of 2 per cent in Sweden over the preceding year.
