Bankruptcies and hearings on compositions without bankruptcies 2015

In 2015, the District Courts decided 6,433 business bankruptcies, including sole traders. The number of business bankruptcies decreased by 10 percent compared with 2014. The number of employees affected by
bankruptcies in 2015 amounted to 15,467, a decrease of 19 percent compared with 2014.

When categorised according to type of business, limited company bankruptcies decreased by 9 percent while the number of trading companies etc. that went bankrupt decreased by 29 percent. Among sole traders, the number of bankruptcies dropped by 8 percent. The number of bankruptcies was 5,484 for limited companies, 354 for trading companies etc. and 595 for sole traders.

The number of bankruptcies in the manufacturing sector was 379 which was a 12 percent decrease. In the building industry, the number of bankruptcies went down by 17 percent to 1,043 and in the trade sector, the number dropped by 4 percent to 1,534. In the hotel and restaurant sector, the number of bankruptcies was 467, a decrease of 6 percent. Among companies in the finance, property, rental and other corporate services sectors, bankruptcies went down by 9 percent which meant that 1,327 businesses were declared bankrupt in 2015.

When distributed according to county, the number of bankruptcies went down by 14 percent to 2,008 companies in the county of Stockholm. In the county of Västra Götaland, bankruptcies dropped by 2 percent to 1,017. In the county of Skåne, 993 companies were declared bankrupt, a reduction of 10 percent.

The number of hearings on compositions without bankruptcies amounted to 160 in 2015, compared with 104 in 2014. The number of employees in these companies amounted to 3,123 people, compared with 2,386 people in 2014.
